The FED 2 was a 35 mm rangefinder camera introduced in 1955 by FED.
The name of FED comes from the initial of Felix Edmundovich Dzerzhinsky. It has a longer rangefinder base (67 mm), a combined viewfinder and rangefinder window, an adjustable diopter for the viewing window, a self-timer, and a detachable back for film loading.
The FED-2 is an entirely new design with many new features. It introduces a new body with solid stripes on top and bottom, and a removable back that locks onto the camera with 2 keys. This assembly is die-cast and not machined, and has shoulder strap lugs.
The rangefinder assembly has also been completely redesigned. It is now a 67mm extra-long base combined range finder and viewfinder. The rangefinder cam is pointed, with the rotation axis on the wind side. There is a diopter adjustment lever under the rewind knob. There is also a new shutter.
The camera is identical to Fed-2a but with a flash sync. The body may be covered in various paints (black, green, red, or blue). It comes with Industar-26M 2.8/50.
This model, FED 2d Export, has a new set of shutter speeds, from 1/30 to 1/500, instead of the older set of 1/25 to 1/500.
By serial number, this camera is from 1961 (PE0435)
